Marrow Deep at times feels turbulent, ornate, measured, chaotic, and cathartic… They’re playing at the peak of their abilities.” - Rolling Stone, 4 star review

“Mastodon banded together during the toughest of times and produced a staggering work, even by their standards.” - REVOLVER

“The veteran metallers' blend the ferocious sludge of their early years with the refined prog rock of the last decade, offering a fitting stylistic survey of their career on this rumination of loss, which seems to follow them everywhere.” - CONSEQUENCE

“Mastodon at their best, hurtling through breakneck time signature changes with violent vivacity while exorcising heavy, cathartic emotions.” - Guitar World

“One of the finest records of Mastodon’s career.” - Treble

“...Marrow Deep is a heavy pour, but not a drop feels wasted. This is not merely a good album considering everything Mastodon have been through. It is a fucking incredible Mastodon album, full stop.” - Metal On Tap, 9.5/10

“Marrow Deep pushes the band into a different direction, not recapturing their past, but building on it. Mastodon fans will be very happy and will spend the rest of the year debating where this fits among their best work." - Wall Of Sound, 8.5/10

“This is an album that you need to take your time with, sit with and let it wash over you without distraction.” - The Live Wire, 8.5/10

“...we the people have been gifted with the band’s ninth studio album Marrow Deep, a title that gives insight into the heights and depths this mortal coil has served onto those who carefully constructed and created this adventitious and well-crafted record.” - Heavy Magazine

“A journey into the roots of the band, Marrow Deep feels like a love letter to their past and a beautiful closing chapter to the old, and the start of a new bright chapter for the band’s future ahead.” - Everblack Media

“Mastodon have made a triumphant yet respectful statement with Marrow Deep…a fresh start and a brilliant album – unmistakably Mastodon at their creative best." - Amnplify

“Marrow Deep slowly rumbles awake with the ominous riffage of Barbarians Blood, and straight from the get-go, it’s classic Mastodon…it might be the best thing Mastodon have put out in years." - Sense Music Media

“Marrow Deep is an album primarily about grief, “wasted years” and loss, but it also has a lightness that celebrates the present and future. Heavy metal and rock fans will love what this record has to offer." - No Barriers Au

Mastodon have released their highly anticipated new album, Marrow Deep via Loma Vista Recordings. Five years on from the expansive Hushed and Grim, Marrow Deep documents founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders, and Bill Kelliher alongside new members Nick Johnston and João Nogueira as they emerge from personal upheaval with a renewed sense of purpose. Inspired by the Three Fates of Greek mythology and the fragile threads connecting life, loss, and destiny, Marrow Deep channels the experiences of the intervening years into some of the most expansive, adventurous, and emotionally resonant music of the band’s storied career. Marrow Deep was co-produced by Mastodon at their own West End Sound in Atlanta with Patrik Berger (Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX) and Kurt Ballou (High On Fire, Converge), was mixed by Andrew Scheps (Adele, Black Sabbath, Metallica), and includes a sprawling list of guest performers including Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Neil Fallon of Clutch, Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe, Converge members Nate Newton and Ben Koller, Joe Duplantier of Gojira, and none other than Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler.

As presaged by an ever-expanding stable of glowing reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone, NPR, Exclaim, Revolver, Decibel, and many more, Marrow Deep marks the beginning of an ambitious new era in which the band balance grief (read more via GQ), introspection (see Bill’s Hardlore interview), and playfulness (watch their Dark Web appearance). The album preserves the crushing riffs, adventurous songwriting, and emotional depth that have long defined Mastodon, while a reinvigorated drive yields some of the most compelling music of their career. “Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we've got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” Sanders says. “That's a magical feeling that makes us keep wanting to go to band practice. It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we're united, and excited to get to work. And we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to do this record.”
