Following sold out headline shows at Yah Yah's in Melbourne and a performance at St Kilda Festival last year, fearless alt-rock musician Terra Rouge now returns with her boldest statement yet in new single 'UR THE MAN'.
"I wrote this single as a satirical commentary on my ex's behaviour," explains Terra Rouge. "The rose coloured glasses he put on my head convinced me I was dating the love of my life.”
An unapologetic pop-rock anthem that transforms betrayal into empowerment, 'UR THE MAN' stacks infectious hooks, pulsing synths and driving guitars with the sarcastic attitude of the rising Melbourne star. Born from the ultimate plot twist, 'UR THE MAN' is both celebratory and confrontational, flipping betrayal into a bold queer anthem and solidifying that nobody wants to end up on the receiving end of a Terra Rouge song.
It tells the hilariously ironic story of ‘the other woman’ revealing Terra Rouge’s ex’s infidelity, before using the moment to confess her own attraction to the songwriter. Reflecting on the experience, Terra Rouge says: “I believed this situation had too much poetic irony to not write a queer anthem to both demean him and celebrate coming out as a lesbian after the break up.”
With biting lyrics, ‘UR THE MAN’ channels anger, liberation and queer empowerment into an anthem for anyone reclaiming their self worth after heartbreak. Fuelled by the bold spirit of early 2000s pop rock, the single also marks a creative evolution for Terra Rouge, leaning into a more collaborative songwriting process.
“The creation of ‘UR THE MAN’ was a momentous step in my journey as a solo artist. It was the first time I took a half finished song to my producer to collaboratively write and create the finished piece together”, says Terra Rouge. “Usually, I write everything independently before bringing it to life with my live band, but this song leaned much further into the pop side of my pop rock sound, so I wanted to build it differently”.
To celebrate the single release, Terra Rouge will join UK ‘Y2K core’ outfit South Arcade for their Melbourne show at The Croxton on release day, introducing new audiences to her infectious energy and sound.
