The Rions, Hey So Hungry and Birdland live at Astor Theatre, Perth | 07 March 2026

There was such a buzz at the Astor Theatre on Saturday night. The kind of energy that makes you know it’s going to be a really fun show. The theatre looked amazing, with its classic balcony overlooking the packed general admission floor, and the lighting set the perfect mood for an indie pop night. People were chatting, dancing in place, and singing along to warm-up tunes before the first act even started, which already gave off a really excited, lively vibe.

The night kicked off with two really fun opening acts. First up was Birdland, a trio of brothers who are still in school. They were super cute and full of energy, and even though their set was short, they really got the audience smiling and clapping along. Next was Hey, So Hungry, who totally lifted the energy with their playful, relaxed set full of original songs. They were so fun to watch, and the crowd got right into it. One highlight was their cover of American Boy by Estelle. The moment it started, everyone was dancing and singing along!

By the time The Rions came on, the crowd was buzzing. They kicked off with Take What You Want and instantly had the room singing and moving. From the start, it was obvious the band were having just as much fun as the audience. They joked between songs, engaged with fans, and created this party-like atmosphere that kept everyone fully involved throughout the set.

A really fun moment came with their cover of I've Got a Feeling by The Beatles. Instead of sticking exactly to the original, they added a jazzy twist that made it feel fresh while still keeping the song’s classic energy. The crowd loved it and sang along every step of the way. One of the most exciting parts of the night was when the band played an unreleased song called I Don't Know You. The track sounded really polished and unique, and you could tell fans were excited to hear something completely new. It definitely had everyone buzzing about the possibility of a new album or more music coming soon.

The rest of the set kept the energy high. Fans were dancing, singing along, and genuinely having a blast. You could tell the band were having fun too, which made the whole show feel really connected and personal.

To close out the night, The Rions played fan favourites Lobby Calls and Minivan. During Minivan, they invited both support acts, Hey, So Hungry and Birdland, back on stage for a massive singalong and dance. Seeing everyone up there together while the crowd went wild was such a fun and memorable way to end the night!

Overall, the night was full of energy, fun, and a sneak peek at new music, which made it easy to see why The Rions have such a loyal fanbase. Perth fans will definitely be hoping they come back soon!
